Our famously bright, sunny weather may have us leading the league in sunglasses sales, but King County-ers aren’t enjoying that hot weather by taking smoke breaks–unless they’re working the types of jobs that tend not to be as friendly towards smoke breaks. The County just released new figures, and overall, smoking is at an all-time low, with just 10.6% of County residents over 18 reporting that they smoke. Sadly, the rates are much higher among those with low incomes and/or without high-school diplomas (23.4% and 26.2%, respectively). Apparently, cigarette smoking is pretty regressive. Maybe Washington will start taxing it more.
