The Atlanta Hawks are close to a trade that would send underachieving backup point guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton to Golden State for underappreciated Rainier Beach alum Jamal Crawford. This deal is a no-lose proposition for the Hawks, as combo-guard Crawford will be, at worst, a lethal scoring threat off the bench as Atlanta’s sixth man. Crawford, a prince of a young man whom I once shared the emergency exit row with on a Chicago-to-Seattle flight, still does plenty of philanthropic work in the region. Furthermore, along with Nate McMillan and LeBron James, co-owns the Fisher Plaza restaurant Sport, the only sports bar in sports bar-starved Seattle to feature private outdoor cabanas with the game of one’s choice tuned in, whether it be the Seahawks on Sunday or Australian Rules Football at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon.
