Remember how Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre tore a testicle when a groundball hit him in, well, the testicle? It happened because he wasn’t wearing a cup. And he said then that he didn’t plan to wear a cup, that the discomfort of the protective apparel wasn’t worth the once-in-a-decade saved pain. Well, he’s going back on that stand–ever so slightly. In an attempt to return from the injury early, Beltre’s been taking batting and fielding practice. And until he’s fully healed, he concedes that he’ll wear a cup–the first time he’s donned the device since he was a teenager. “I don’t know how I’m going to do it,” he says. One leg at a time, Adrian. One leg at a time.
