Allison Manch

Allison Manch’s smart, often in-your-face embroidered works knit a decidedly feminine craft with sometimes outspoken text and imagery. Lace-edged thrift-store handkerchiefs are embellished with song lyrics, what might be found text, or designs that comment on the patterns of the found linen itself. Entitled “Saturn Returns,” this is Manch’s first solo show in a more prominent gallery, and the work takes a self-reflective tack. With iconic imagery informed by her background in photography, the artist explores a family move cross-country, her own settling in Seattle, and, perhaps most prominently, her imminent 30th birthday.
