This morning, the Seattle Times reports that King County Executive Ron Sims’ plan to save $10 million hit a snag when the state Supreme Court said shutting down Superior and District court would violate the state constitution. The 10 day government shutdown, spread out throughout the year, is supposed to help keep afloat things like a family court services program that helps judges navigate messy divorce proceedings and protect kids. The furloughs, as the unpaid days off are called, are not completely off the table. Sims can still shut down other government offices, though that is still waiting for a green light from the unions.
