Vintage Tastes Great/Less Filling debate, screen-capped from YouTubeThe debate about Greg Nickels’ lobbying effectiveness continues, this time with a P-I piece–touted in a triumphant tweet from @JanDrago4Mayor–that quotes local lawmakers who call him difficult, but also seems to conclude that maybe he’s been effective (since he got the tunnel Frank Chopp didn’t want), and if he’s hated, maybe it’s because Seattle is hated. The Drago campaign is surely enjoying this focus on Nickels’ reputed churlishness, but it’d be nice if sometime soon the Drago vs. Nickels element of the race could shift to their (nascent) policy differences. Drago seems poised to stake out the ground to Nickels’ developer-friendly right, what with her push for less money in the affordable housing levy and her letter to the Alki Foundation touting her opposition to his incentive zoning program and industrial lands downzone. Unless someone’s got some really awesome stories of Nickels throwing tantrums in the halls of the Capitol, these dueling quotes on his personality and style are going to get old.
