Idaho Gem: Earth's First Cloned Mule is not an official graduate of the University of Idaho, but was born/bred by there. Gem's a household name, a diplomat, and isn't afraid to cross party fences to get things done, or to tear up the neighbor's lawn. The party couldn't live with vice president that looked so much like the Democrats' Donkey.
Malcolm M. Renfrew graduated from the University of Idaho in 1932. While working for DuPont, he is credited for having co-created Teflon. Renfrew was keen on the McCain/Renfrew idea, but couldn't make it stick.

Brian Smith (right, standing), graduated from the University of Idaho in the spring of 2005. His drumming for up-and-coming country band Telluride caught Sen. McCain's attention during their Straight Talk (All Stops) Tour. Smith turned down Sen. McCain, saying, There's just so much more I want to accomplish before I settle down in a city where you must wear pants in public.
