If wine and beer tastings were all as malt and chocolate laden as the industry event I attended Monday at Hale’s, my attendance would improve dramatically. (I know, world’s smallest violins…but it was my day off). The event was a winter beer and chocolate pairing, with a little help from the Chocolate Box, and it was a pre-function for the Winter Beer Fest happening this Friday and Saturday at Hale’s in Fremont. If you’re like me and live for the maltier side of brew, ’tis the season and the event for you.The hit of the day, for me, was Pike Brewing Co.’s Entire Wood-aged stout with Theo’s Ghana bar. The deep flavors of the stout enhanced by time in bourbon barrels complemented the very fruity and none-too-sweet chocolate. We also partook in some Menage a Frog, a trippel from the Issaquah Brewhouse, and a truly delightful and aromatic winter ale from Northern Lights Brewing Co. And of course, Hale’s Wee Heavy. This year’s event will showcase chocolates from Moonstruck, Theo and Lesley’s, presented through The Chocolate Box. Click the above link for more details about tasting times and a special Chocolate 101 presentation. I’ve got to give a shout out to the Washington Beer Commission as they always provide any and all helpful details–especially those concerning driving alternatives–on their website, then follow through with stellar event planning. You just can’t attend an event like this and expect to be able to hop in the car afterward. (Washington Wine Commission, eh hem, take notes, please.) Since the Washington State Liquor Control Board will never get off their ass to commend you, WBC, I do so here.Winter Beer FestHale’s Palladium4301 Leary Way NW$23 adv/$25 doorFriday Dec. 5th, 5-10pm Saturday Dec. 6th, 1-10pmClick here for tickets
