In just a few short days, it will be November 23. A day to rejoice. A day for celebration. A day for people to forget their differences and to remember the importance of Earth’s Time Lords. I’m of course talking about “The Day of the Doctor,” Doctor Who’s special 50th-anniversary episode, broadcast by the BBC.

As if 50 years weren’t impressive enough, Doctor Who also happens to be the longest-running sci-fi TV series (it holds the Guinness Book of Records title, so you know it’s legit). Not to worry—you don’t have to fly to the UK to mark this momentous occasion. We’re fortunate enough to have a city brimming with Whovians, so events are happening around the area. The question is not whether you’ll be celebrating, but how, where, and of course with Who(m). Mark your calendars, grab your sonic screwdriver, and head to one of these venues:

EMP’s Doctor Who celebration is the ultimate Whovian experience! Get your picture taken inside a TARDIS, compete in Doctor-focused trivia and games, watch classic episodes, run from a Dalek, compete in the costume contest . . . the list goes on. See empmuseum.org for more information. $14–$20/free for EMP members. 7–11 p.m. Sat., Nov. 23.

BBC America will air “The Day of the Doctor” across the country, allowing Whovians to plan their own home screening. Or if you’re adventurous and willing to put in the effort, try to snag tickets to the sold-out simulcast at Cinemark Lincoln Square in Bellevue. Find them (maybe) on meetup.com/Seattle-Doctor-Who-fans or facebook.com/DoctorWhoSeattle. Otherwise tune in to BBC America at noon on Nov. 23.

Watch “Day of the Doctor” in 3-D! Multiple theaters are screening this historic episode on Mon., Nov, 25. If you choose this option, just make sure to avoid all social-media platforms to prevent spoilers.
