Six Arms Brew Pub

Cozy, cluttered with unusual decorations, and located in the heart of Capitol Hill, Six Arms has long been a destination for those looking for quality brew and cheap happy-hour eats. The quesadillas ($4) are crispy, stuffed with cheese, and served with black beans, salsa, and a tangy cilantro sour cream. The hummus appetizer ($4) comes with a burly portion of hummus, warm pita bread, and fresh slices of feta cheese and tomatoes, and aside from the strange appearance of the fried chicken (think gargantuan pieces of lumpia), the “tenders and tots” ($4) are satisfying and exceptionally filling for happy-hour food. Another perk of an early (4 to 6 p.m.) visit: The service is momentously faster, because Six Arms service is almost always friendly but tends to move at a turtlelike pace the more crowded the restaurant gets. Again on the positive side: Booths are roomy and comfortable, a perfect place for large groups of friends to squash in together; smokers are never glared at or vigorously fanned away; and the Ruby Ale will only cost you $3, pitchers of McMenamins Ales are $9, 50 cents is knocked off McMenamins liquor and all wine, and well drinks are $3. Enough to make you overlook the fact that a frightening metal bird is overlooking you. 300 East Pike St., 206-223-1698. CAPITOL HILL
