Phantogram had a bang-up 2010, releasing their debut record, Eyelid Movies, on Barsuk Records (which was one of SW’s favorite albums of the year), and touring nearly nonstop, including a couple of sold-out Seattle shows. Their next stage of conquest? TV! Set your DVRS–the Saratoga Springs duo will make their television debut on Wednesday, February 2 on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Their performance is sure to hook some viewers–besides the fact that their trippy electronic music kills live, they’re both very good-looking people (see above photo) and will therefore likely be extremely telegenic. The big question for Phantogram fans–what’re they going to play??Logic points towards the Eyelid Movies’ single, “Mouthful of Diamonds,” which is admittedly a striking and lovely song. But my pick would be Phantogram’s even earlier single, “Running From the Cops.” It’s got a killer beat, it’s tougher and edgier and therefore more attention-getting, and while Sarah Barthel obviously has a stunning voice, methinks it’s time for Josh Carter’s singing to get some love–his voice, especially on “Running From the Cops,” is smooth, creeping, and sexy as hell.Follow Reverb on Facebook.
