No Best of Seattle™ list would be complete without a mention of Canlis. Sure, the restaurant has maintained a stellar reputation since opening in 1950 and their views of Lake Union are unbeatable, but it’s the water closet that beats the pants off that of every other restaurant in Seattle. The din of the spacious dining room fades away as you enter the Zen-themed, spa-like bathroom. The gray flagstones on the floor and sand-colored wall tiles lend soothing colors, and a huge window looks out onto a sunken garden with lots of bamboo. Soft, thick towels for drying hands, fresh flowers, and Japanese art elevate it further. And even though it wasn’t impeccably clean when I visited—a couple of kiddos had splashed water all over the dark stone counter surrounding the ultramodern, free-standing sink bowl—I still felt as though I had peed someplace special.
