Rock Salt

This seafood and steak house overlooking Lake Union may not be especially hip, but they’ve put together a pretty good happy hour, fueled by an eclectic assortment of cheap drinks and grub. Discounted drinks include Stella Artois ($2.50/pint) and wells ($3); among the eats, chicken quesadillas ($2.49) and perfectly grilled, juicy shrimp with tangy cocktail sauce ($1.29 each) are standouts. Clearly, the view from Rock Salt’s gargantuan windows isn’t the only thing drawing in mellow after-workers. Marrieds sip wine in booths (with unfortunately tacky covers), retirees gossip around tables, and one couple enthusiastically plays Yahtzee for the tab. The Sonics on the big-screen TV and the hodgepodge of wood, stone, and mirrors give the bar a distinct steak-house feel, but the calm music (recently, Christmas carols) and friendly, efficient wait staff make everyone feel welcome. And with the cheap drinks and food lasting from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, you can probably afford to pick up the check—Yahtzee or not. 1232 Westlake Ave. N., 206-284-1047.
