As we learned from the Municipal Idol casting rundown, Ginsberg is a long shot against incumbent Richard Conlin. But even if you don't vote for the guy, you'll totally want to invite his adorable family to your barbecues this summer. This salsa is just one more reason why.

Oh, you're the David taking on Goliath, a woman told Jessie Israel while dishing up her salad concocted with a variety of legumes and vegetables she got at the Pike Place Market. After a few bites the woman decides Israel has hit the jackpot. Maybe there's a lesson in this for long-shot challengers to entrenched incumbents. Winning on the issues is very difficult, but perhaps your command of local ingredients will sway the electorate.

Technically this was an event for city council campaigns, but mayoral hopeful Mike McGinn helped found Great City, the group putting on the event last night, so he crashed it with a salad made of ingredients out of his garden. Only the olive oil and vinegar dressing wasn't local.
