Sen. Larry Craig: Yes, the man with the wide stance is still in the Senate. And he appeals to a base of voters universally ignored by the political process. In the end, Craig just represented too much of the old guard.

Idaho Gem: Earth's First Cloned Mule is not an official graduate of the University of Idaho, but was born/bred by there. Gem's a household name, a diplomat, and isn't afraid to cross party fences to get things done, or to tear up the neighbor's lawn. The party couldn't live with vice president that looked so much like the Democrats' Donkey.
Malcolm M. Renfrew graduated from the University of Idaho in 1932. While working for DuPont, he is credited for having co-created Teflon. Renfrew was keen on the McCain/Renfrew idea, but couldn't make it stick.
1993 graduate Dan O'Brien won the gold medal in the decathlon during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He was approached by McCain about the VP possibility, but after the old man declined to join O'Brien's Gold Medal Acceleration gym, the two had a falling out.
Dirk Kempthorne: Currently the Bush Administration's Secretary of the Interior, Kempthorne's political career started at the University of Idaho where he was president of the Associated Students of the University of Idaho. He has also served as U.S. Senator and Governor of Idaho. McCain deemed him too tall to be vice president.
Brian Smith (right, standing), graduated from the University of Idaho in the spring of 2005. His drumming for up-and-coming country band Telluride caught Sen. McCain's attention during their Straight Talk (All Stops) Tour. Smith turned down Sen. McCain, saying, There's just so much more I want to accomplish before I settle down in a city where you must wear pants in public.
This is actually a picture of me. Maybe it's just ego talking, but I'd like to think that I've been vetted.
