Earlier this summer at Folklife, SW‘s 2011 Best Garage Band winners Koko and the Sweetmeats played their final show as a band. Koko founder and frontman Garett van der Spek isn’t calling it quits, though–he’s now writing and performing under the moniker Prism Tats. The clangorous first offering from Prism Tats, “Death Or Fame,” is deliciously minimal, composed of and needing nothing more than a series of metallic guitar riffs and van der Spek’s keening, highly memorable vocals.
