Harold S. Lloyd says he slapped his 88-year-old father because he thought the man had groped his adult daughter at last year’s Thanksgiving dinner. The father, Harold E. Lloyd, denied ever doing such a thing. But by the time his son hit him, it was too late. Lloyd Jr. hit his dad so hard that he sent him to the hospital where he eventually died. Now Snohomish County Prosecutors are seeking a two year sentence for the the 56-year-old Lynnwood man after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges on Thursday. In the few days after the assault, Lloyd Sr. had swelled up with black eyes and complained of bad headaches. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he died on Dec. 2, last year. Doctors ruled it was indeed the blows to the head that killed him.Lloyd took the plea bargain of second-degree manslaughter after admitting that he thought there was no way a jury would acquit him. Though two years may seem a short amount of time to spend in prison for beating one’s own father to death, the sentence is in line with sentencing guidelines for the charge he copped to.A judge could still order additional prison time, though that’s rare in cases involving plea bargains. The final ruling on Lloyd’s sentence will be handed down on Dec. 13.
