“There were two things we knew about Gorgeous George’s before we went for dinner–two things we’d gleaned from friends and acquaintances who’d been there before and learned hard lessons on their own dimes. One: Go early. Really early. Two: Order the chicken. Don’t be distracted by all the more interesting looking things on the menu; just go on the weekend (which is the only time the chicken in question is served) and order George’s Grandma’s Chicken.”From this week’s review of Gorgeous George’s Mediterranean Kitchen in GreenwoodThat’s good advice there, both suggestions completely valid and valuable. You’ve got to get to Gorgeous George’s early because, if you don’t–if you miss that all-important first seating and have to wait for the dining room to turn–you might be waiting for a long time for a seat. And once you do get there, get seated and seen to by the girl working the floor, you’ve got to order the chicken: George’s Chicken, a special served only on the weekends. It’s good, just like everyone says it is. So good that it’s the reason that most people probably know about George’s in the first place. But the thing is, that chicken? It’s not the best thing on the menu. It’s good, without a doubt. Even excellent. But George has got something even better than that waiting for those in the know. Sure, you can try to guess what it is. But the smarter thing would be to just pick up tomorrow’s paper (or read the review online when it goes live) and find out for yourself what the one thing is that Gorgeous George’s does better than anyone else anywhere.
