Alcala on “The Dating Game.”Rodney Alcala is already a convicted murderer. This we know, after a California jury found him guilty in the deaths of four women and a 12-year-old girl. But now Seattle cold-case detectives are trying to determine if the former “Dating Game” contestant might have struck here too.Two weeks ago, Huntington Beach police released hundreds of photographs and keepsakes taken from a Shoreline storage locker Alcala had rented in the ’70s. Alcala, who has a genius-level IQ, lured many of his victims by asking to take their photograph. And Jennifer Sullivan at The Seattle Times says that detectives have noticed key links in two cases that may lead back to him.In an eight-month span between 1977 and 1978, both 13-year-old Antoinette “Tony” Walker and 17-year-old Joyce Gaunt were murdered. Both teens were found outdoors posed in awkward positions. Similar to the way Alcala had left the bodies of two of his California victims.King County is also conducting its own investigation to see if Alcala may be linked to the disappearance of 19-year-old Chery Greenman. Greenman vanished from Waterville in 1976. Sullivan writes that police think a picture recovered from Alcala’s storage locker bears a strong resemblance to the missing teen.Seattle detectives say the circumstances of the girl’s slayings demand that they follow-up. They’ve requested DNA tests to determine if Alcala is linked, or if they can rule him out as a suspect.
