Eastern Washington would like money from its fans so that it may give them a permanent migraine.Perhaps sensing that there’s something very sad about being outperformed by schools from neighboring Idaho, a Washington football program is looking to steal some of Boise State’s thunder. Not only do the Broncos have arguably the best team in the nation, they also have a blue field, affectionately known as “Smurf Turf.” Enter I-AA Eastern Washington, which just announced plans to install a red field.”There is no doubt that one of Boise State’s claims to fame has been their blue turf and like it or dislike it, it has certainly brought them a tremendous amount of notoriety,” says EWU athletic director Bill Chaves. “In a similar vein we have a tremendous opportunity at Eastern to do the same by differentiating ourselves with the red turf while providing a superior playing surface.”What are the odds EWU’s President dared Chaves to say “vein” when announcing the schools plans to dye the football field blood red? Three to one? Even? We’re on to you, Chaves.
