The M’s used their 2008 first-round draft choice to take a collegiate closer, Josh Fields, who was supposed to be darn near MLB ready right out of the chute, ala Huston Street. Better yet, his agent, Scott Boras, proceeded to hold his client out of action for a ridiculous amount of time until he got a ridiculous amount of money. Well, if a 6.48 ERA with one save in 31 games for the M’s AA affiliate equals “MLB ready” — or even “ready in the near future” — well, color us purple. Fret not, David Aardsma.
