Ugly townhouse photo from West Seattle Blog.Mr. Smith Goes to the Seattle Design Commission doesn’t have the same ring as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, but then, we all know that moms-in-tennis-shoes notwithstanding, ordinary folks don’t get too many cracks at the Senate. Nickels says he’s looking for an “experienced urban planner” to serve on the commission and help advise the city on development issues. Of course, Sam Adams in Portland said he was looking for an experienced urban planner and instead hired a journalist who’d put the breaks on an investigation of him. And that was for a paid position. That’s not to say that Nickels is similarly ethically challenged–he certainly doesn’t appear to be. Just that enterprising talents can sometimes find a way.
