Things like this never cease to amaze me. The week we run Erika Hobart’s feature on all the women working hard in Seattle hip-hop (“Femcees Unite”) is the same week Hannah Levin (writing in her column) makes a call for the increased profile of women in Seattle hip-hop. Coincidence? Well, yeah…but both pieces make something very clear: without the presence of women, Seattle does not have a vital hip-hop scene. In the words of Ladies First founder Wendy (Onion) Carillo: “Well, fuck that…”2008 should be the year to change all that.
