Savvy Girls of Summer: Baseball Unveiled
Published 7:00 am Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Did you know that the Mariners have the highest percentage of women fans among all Major League Baseball teams? I didnt either, although I do recall a comment made by a visiting East Coaster: This is, like, the Pottery Barn of baseball stadiums. Yeah, its nice and fancy with its retractable roof and lovely grass, and when my girls and I go, its mainly for the foot-long dogs and gossipinterspersed with chanting and checking the score. But some women are serious as hell about the game, of course, and this pregame event is geared toward them. The Mariners are sending a big up to local authors Deidre Silva and Jackie Koney, whose book, Savvy Girls of Summer: Baseball Unveiled, should be out around baseball season next year. Tonights wine-and-cheese snack recognizes their gusto via a Q&A with Tery Ibañez (wife of outfielder Raul) and Amy Affeld, a Fox Sports Northwest program director. The first 350 to order tickets get entrance to the party, so if you want to hobnob with fellow female fans before we stick it to the L.A. Angels, scoop one up. 5:05 p.m. Game at 7:05 p.m.
