There’s a wandering eight-mile loop near Kent that takes you along a gently sloping, paved route populated with dog walkers and small children and crisscrossed with horse trails; and for most of your ride, you’ll have the leafy path all to yourself. Soos Creek Trail is the perfect lazy bike ride, taking you along a hidden park and opening out onto a field with horses corralled in a far corner. It’s a beautiful bit of parkland hidden in the suburbs. Just be warned: When I traversed the loop, a segment of trail was in the process of being paved, and a bit of bridge was still missing its guardrails. Perhaps by the time this goes to print, construction will be complete. If you’ve got nubby-enough tires, though, you’ll be fine either way.—Adriana Grant 145th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 240th Street and Southeast 256th Street, Meridian (near Kent), www.metrokc.gov/parks/trails/sooscreek.html.
