Seared ahi with honey ginger sauce, just $6.50! Wow!
The Place: The List, 2226 1st Ave., 441-1000. Belltown.
The Hours: All day Sunday and Monday; 4:00-6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.-12 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4:00-6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Deal: All items on the "food list" are 50% off, plus $14 bottles of house red or white wine, $3.75 glass wine pours, and $2.95 draft beers.
The Digs: This shoebox-sized Italian bistro makes up for small stature with a cool, urban style; its seductive red lighting and illuminated bar tops could stand in as set design for A Clockwork Orange, and its well-heeled Belltown clientele wouldn't be out of place at a fancy, er, A-List, soiree. If these kind of upscale digs seem an unlikely destination for one of the best happy hours in town, well, they are, but what's even more crazy is that the prices you'll encounter will make you think that popular Happy Hour houses like McCormick and Schmick's or Elliott's are more like overpriced and filthy crabshacks than any hotbed of deals.
There are delicious deals galore here: perfectly quaffable bottles of Italian red or white (a $12 steal), generous portions of pillowy gnocchi with black truffle cream ($5.50), an arugula, mozzarella, and shaved reggiano salad ($4), a $4.50 plate of eggplant parmesean (sans spaghetti--but who needs that anyway), and cannelloni with spinach and ricotta for the small sum of $4. On a recent Saturday night, our party of four feasted like royalty and in the process downed two bottles of wine and a couple more drinks for less than $85--that's a deal you simply can not beat, especially if you're looking to fortify your gut before a long night out at the bars, or, in our case, a date with the Hobbit in 3D at the Cinerama.
The Verdict: Add The List to your Happy Hour agenda and check off one of the best deals in town.
