Metropole American Kitchen & Bar is open at 820 Pike St. in the former home of the short-lived Soban Asian Cuisine. The restaurant is named after Metropole Tavern, the 30s and 40s-era watering hole owned by the grandfather of the new restaurant's co-owner. The menu includes soft shell crab po' boy sandwiches and tomato fondue with meatballs and Beecher's cheese fritters.
In other news, as part of its "Meet Your Maker" series, Wine World & Spirits at 400 NE 45th St. is hosting a tasting. The event features 25 area distilleries, including Spokane's Dry Fly, Richland's Black Heron, and Seattle's Batch 206 on Sunday, January 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. Twenty bucks earns ten tasting tickets, with proceeds benefiting the University District Food Bank. Tickets are for sale over here.
