Here's your cheat sheet for December's restaurant and bar openings and closings in the Seattle area.

AMERICAN FARE

The Austin opened its doors at 2820 Oakes Ave. in downtown Everett. The extra-beefy menu includes maple bourbon bacon burgers.

The folks behind Purple and Barrio are opening a 3,000-square-foot cafe this spring in Woodinville's Hollywood Vineyards at 14479 Woodinville Redmond Rd. Craft spirits from local distilleries will be featured alongside beer and wine.

SE ASIAN/INDIAN

The owners of Capitol Hill watering hole Montana are partnering with Malaysian farmers market vendor Kedai Makan to open a brick-and-mortar location in the speck of a space currently occupied by Tacos Gringos. The restaurant at 1510 Olive Way is scheduled to begin serving customers in January.

Meeru Dhalwala's Shanik launched this month at 500 Terry Ave. in South Lake Union. The Indian restaurant's initial opening date was delayed by a few days, which only helped to increase the buzz around Dhalwala's first venture south of the border. Alongside husband Vikram Vij, she owns the iconic Vij's and Rangoli in Vancouver.

Ballard's dearly departed Thaiku announced that it will re-open in Phinney Ridge in early 2013. The restaurant's address has yet to be announced.

COFFEE SHOPS/CAFES

After more than 15 years of business, Caffe Appassionato's Queen Anne outpost at 1417 Queen Anne Ave N. shutters its doors today. The cafe's four other Seattle-area locations remain in operation.

Seasons Cafe & Bakery opened inside Ballard's Swansons Nursery at 9701 15th Ave. Serving coffee from Batdorf & Bronson, the sandwich, bakery, and lunch spot replaces Alexa's Garden Cafe.

ECLECTIC

Saley Crepes is moving from 1650 E. Olive Way to new digs downtown on 8th and Olive. The remodeled space is set to open in February.

Capitol Hill mourned the loss of Skelly and the Bean earlier this month. The community-supported restaurant closed December 20 at 2359 10th Ave. E. Owner Zephyr Paquette hopes to open again in a new location.

FRENCH

Thierry Rautureau announced that Madison Valley's Rover's will shutter this April. The iconic French restaurant at 2808 East Madison St. opened more than 25 years ago.

ITALIAN

Zaccagni's is scheduled to open in the former Danny's Wonder Freeze location at Pike Place Market this January. The Italian menu will include sausage and onion and porchetta sandwiches.

SPECIALTY SHOPS

Essence Wine Shop is open for business at 415 E. Pine St. in the former home of CakeSpy Shop.

West Seattle butcher Tom Salle opened Meat The Live Butcher at 9432 16th Avenue SW. The meat counter features custom-cutting and grinding of prime grade beef and pork.

Paris Eastside opened at 816 East Pike St. in Capitol Hill. In addition to selling French imports, the space hosts cooking classes.

WATERING HOLES

The Armory at the Seattle Center announced "Seattle's Best Damn Happy Hour" will debut February 21, a month later than expected. The event, featuring music, games, and discounted food and drinks, will be held every third Thursday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Augustus opened its doors at 3601 Fremont Ave N. In addition to custom cocktails, various house-made sausages are on the menu.

Continuing the redemption of north Broadway, Linda Derschang's latest bar Bait Shop is open at 606 Broadway E. The menu includes fabled pork rinds as big as your head.

Matt's in the Market owner Dan Bugge announced he's opening Radiator Whiskey in 2013 inside a former architecture office across the hall from Matt's. In addition to exclusive house whiskey, expect a menu chock-full of meat.

Skillet founder Josh Henderson is the partner in a new tavern featuring "whiskey, cornhole, and cheeseburgers" slated to open in Woodinville next year. The historic bar at 14508 Woodinville Redmond Rd. NE has housed watering holes for more than 70 years, including the recently shuttered Hollywood Tavern.
