Stenson (l) working alongside his boss and barback, Boudreau.
As reported over the weekend, superstar bartender Murray Stenson has a heart ailment that requires swift medical attention. But, like many in the service industry, Stenson lacks medical insurance to cover the costs, according to Jamie Boudreau, his boss at Canon. Hence, Boudreau and his cocktail-community comrades have quickly organized a series of fundraisers for Stenson. So intense is the interest in helping Stenson out that a fundraiser in Australia has been planned for next week, says Boudreau, who's in the process of appointing municipal captains in nearly a dozen of American cities who've pledged to organize more than one benefit for Stenson's medical aid fund.
According to Boudreau, cities which have committed to hosting multiple events on Stenson's behalf include: Portland (Ore.), D.C., Boston, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver (B.C.), and Houston, with Denver and New Orleans soon to come aboard. Check MurrayAid.org for an up-to-minute schedule or to make a donation, and please make a point to raise a glass at either Paratii Craft Bar in Ballard on October 27 or 28, Canon on October 30, or the Zig Zag on November 4 for this incredibly critical cause.
Murray belongs back behind the bar, and he needs your help to get there.
