Mom's Best (Cannabis) Mix: Chex It Out, Man

I started out with an entirely responsible plan; I'd try the Original variety one night and Spicy the next. Things didn't work out quite that way. Seems the Original gave me the munchies, and the Spicy was just sitting there asking for it.

Sweets aren't the be-all and end-all of cannabis-infused medibles. Sure, there are plenty of brownies and cookies and cake pops and cereal bars and chocolates around, if you want 'em -- enough to keep you on a perpetual sugar/THC high -- but you'd be remiss if you never bothered to try the savory side of stoned cuisine. One such medible is Mom's Best Mix, a chex mix prepared with marijuana butter, which I got during my recent visit visit to access point Key Peninsula Collective in Lakebay.

Moms Best Mix comes in both Original and Spicy flavors; I decided to try them both, and both were tasty. The Spicy variety does have a mild burn, but it's nothing overpowering, while the Original isn't very different from the Chex mix Aunt Mabel used to serve at Christmas parties. Only the subtle (and, to me, agreeable) taste of cannabutter serves to remind you that you're not only eating; you're also medicating.

I started out with an entirely responsible plan; I'd try the Original variety one night and Spicy the next. Things didn't work out quite that way. Seems the Original gave me the munchies, and the Spicy was sitting there just asking for it. "They were only five bucks apiece," my munchie-infested Id told my Better Judgment. Yeah, yeah, I ate them both in one sitting, and got quite medicated.

Would one of them have been enough? Yes, for most people, most of the time, one will get you medicated. For those with a high tolerance to cannabis medibles, however, there's nothing wrong with taking to the next level and downing two bags of Mom's Best Mix. It is, of course, an ideal munchie food while watching TV, reading a book, or web surfing, and that it leads to a pleasantly medicated state of reduced pain and anxiety makes it well worth the five bucks a bag.

I found my Mom's Best Mix at Key Peninsula Collective (near Gig Harbor). Key Peninsula has a good selection of other medibles as well, including sweets like hash brownies, chocolate bars, and ice cream, as well as savory breakfast foods like Biscuits and Gravy, Oatmeal, and even a Sausage, Egg and Cheese Breakfast Burrito (which I really gotta try next time). They're open from 11 to 7 seven days a week at 15607 92nd Street KPN, Lakebay, (253)884-6420, kpcollective@gmail.com.
