Look at those tots grow! At Taco Time's first Schoolyard Garden in Bellevue.
Quick word association game: When we say Taco Time, you think... Mexi-Fries!
Well, as much as we LOVE those crispy tots, Taco Time has also been going in a whole lean direction over the past year, first introducing a bunch of low-fat "Fit Hits" menu items and now, digging in the dirt with some tots, with the intention of spreading the good word about where food comes from. Yup, just like the legendary Alice Waters and her Edible Schoolyard project.
This inaugural Schoolyard Garden effort in our region has Taco Time partnering with Newport Heights Elementary in Bellevue, providing students with seeds and soil and an expert to show them how to make their veggies grow.
The kiddos are keeping journals and also learning about nutrition from Taco Time Health Coach Deborah Enos. (Wait! What the what? Taco Time has a health coach? She better not 86 those fab fries!)
This schoolyard garden is a pilot program, which the company hopes to grow in the future. Can we get an awww-men on that prospect?
Think we'll go celebrate this earthy development with a fried bean burrito and a large side order of... well, you know what!
