Julien v. Food: Big Dawg Challenge

Julien v. Food is back after an eight-month hiatus! But....we're not sure for how long. Until Julien finds another challenge she's up for or another pair of flattering fat pants (whichever comes first), enjoy this latest episode of JvF!

The Big Dawg Challenge: 22-inch chili dog and 1-lb of waffle fries.
Location: Wing Central, 4524 University Way N.E., 634-9464, UNIVERSITY DISTRICT.

Weigh-In: The challenge took place on the last day of February, four weeks after several trips to Walla Walla where there's not much else to do other than drink and eat (aka 'heaven') and a candy binge on Valentine's Day, so at 5'4" I weighed in at 114-pounds. For those keeping track (probably nobody but me) that's a good 4-5 pounds heavier than normal. Post-eating challenge? Let me preface by saying the only thing I consumed after the challenge was a glass of wine, maybe three. The next morning, I weighed 118-pounds. Holy, salt lick!

The Challenge: The Big Dawg Challenge is a 22-inch hot dog served chili cheese-style, which means it's topped with all beef chili, cheese sauce, onions, and jalapenos. There's also a pound of fries. A timer at your table ticks down the 22 minutes you have to eat the thing, and if you succeed, you get a limited-edition "Big Dawg" t-shirt, whatever that is. Since Wing Central opened a year ago on The Ave, about a dozen dudes have completed the challenge and not a single female.

The aftermath.
Difficulty: On a scale of 1-10, a solid 7. Not because of the amount of food, but, as I said in the video, the intense flavors involved. The chili overpowered a rather delicious dog (made in-house), and there was just so much of it. I plowed through about half the dog before stopping. As for the fries, I somehow always manage room for great fries, and these definitely were. I ate all but three of them. I could have kept eating those all day, but then, I probably would have exploded at some point.

The Champ: Not me.
