There are already lots of competitive oyster shucks on the Pacific Northwest calendar, but Local 360's customers begged the restaurant to schedule another one.
"We had so many people ask for it," says Shawn Kramer, operations manager for the Belltown restaurant. "It's public demand."
The Jan. 27 contest is open to amateurs and professionals, and Kramer hints a few local chefs will be among the competitors. "I can't release the names," he says. "I will as soon as they've signed on the dotted line."
Contestants will have three minutes to shuck as many oysters as they can; only cleanly-shucked oysters will count toward their tally.
"There's nothing more satisfying then popping open a tight lipped mollusk," Kramer rhapsodizes.
Local businesses have contributed "awesome" gift cards for the top three finishers; Kramer says each prize package is worth $250.
The entry fee is $25. Comtestants must register at least 24 hours in advance.
