This is not the only affordable Brut!
When it comes to our Top 5 Lists, folks are frequently prone to question the methodology by which they are created. We don't want to spill any secrets, but I can assure you, that in the case of this week's Bubbly Bruts, it is a topic I have personally researched. Extensively.

If you're a fan and frequent connoisseur of all things fermented, you know it can be an expensive habit to cultivate. Fortunately, there are some great options between high end Dom and bottom feeder Ballatore that will let you indulge without breaking the bank. Here are a few which can be easily attained at the supermarket and are perfect for "Sparkling Up" your holiday merriment:

Domaine Ste. Michelle Cuvee Brut- As it is always around $10 at the grocery store, I'm not ashamed to admit that there is a bottle of this lovely local in my fridge at all times. I'm also not ashamed to admit I've counted, and there are approximately 5110 days until my kid goes to college and I can turn his bedroom into a walk-in Bubbly Cooler full of the stuff. Mellow, not too sweet and great alone or with a splash of juice.

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva- In the interest of full disclosure Segura Viudas was a sponsor at this year's Seattle Weekly Reverb Fest, which served as my introduction to this light, smooth, easy going Cava. It combines fruity and floral notes for a sip-tastic drinking experience.

Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut- There is nothing worse than requesting Bubbles at the bar and having the keep pull out a tiny, twist-top bottle of J. Roget. Our friends at Freixenet make individual sized bottles of this perfectly delightful Sparkler, which bills itself as "the #1 imported sparkling wine in the world". If there were an ounce of justice in said world for Bubbly/music fans, Freixenet would be stocked in every rock club in Seattle.

Mum Napa Brut Rose- The most spendy of the Bruts on the list. This gorgeous pink looker boasts black cherry and strawberry notes, and is so over-the-top with naughty effervescence it's like something Prince would have written about in the '80s. Mum is an impressive hostess gift and sells for between $17-25 (as of today, at QFC, it's $15.99 with your Club Card) at most retailers so you can afford to bring an extra to enjoy yourself.

NV Cristallino Brut Cava- I've seen Cristallino go for as low as $6 at Costco, making it a great, inexpensive option to buy by the case. It's full of apple and citrus notes that complement signature party drinks like Mimosas, Bellinis and or other "champagne" cocktails.
