Wing Dome's 7-alarm sauce, already enjoying a year of steady media attention, was named second-best in the "traditional extra hot" category. RuChDa Wings, an Atlanta-area wing joint which sells its spiciest wings under the label "russy hot," won first prize.
Wing Dome also entered its triple garlic and 4-alarm sauces in the "creative spicy" and "traditional medium" categories, but failed to win recognition in those divisions. The restaurant-only competition drew 33 entrants from across the country, although participating restaurants weren't required to submit sauces in all seven categories.
In addition to the sauces entered in competition, Wing Dome also offered samples of its "bigger badder cheese" sauce to festival-goers.
"The feedback was that our wing sauces marked a delicious difference from the traditional east coast vinegar-based sauces," director of operations Phil Warchol said in a quote provided by a Wing Dome spokesperson.
