With a name like White Center, how could a neighborhood not be a contender for Cinderella status?
The results are in for the first round of The Great Neighborhood Snackdown, and it's looking like White Center could be the tournament's Virginia Commonwealth. The 'hood is home to only 13,000 people, but apparently they all eat very, very well: White Center handily unseated the behemoth West Seattle, a conglomeration of nearly two dozen smaller neighborhoods.
"Hands down, White Center takes gold," a voter predicted in the poll's comments section.
To reach the finals, White Center will have to triumph over South Lake Union, and then defeat the winner of the Central District-Capitol Hill matchup. On the other end of the bracket, Fremont, Wallingford, Ballard, and the International District advance to second-round play.
The slate's wiped clean for semifinals competition, so stretch your mouse-clicking finger and prepare to again vote for your favorite neighborhood. Match-ups begin this afternoon; all votes must be received by Sunday night.
Congratulations to the winning 'hoods, and good luck in round two.
