A culinary contest that challenges non-cooks to complete a task that chefs find difficult has returned to Woodinville for a second year.
Iron Vintner, which pits local winemakers against one another in an Iron Chef-style competition, convenes tonight at the Willows Lodge for the contest's second round. Tonight's winner will face Chris Gorman of Gorman Cellars, who won last week's head-to-head showdown, in the June 22 finals.
"The competitors are some of Woodinville's finest winemakers," Willows Lodge spokeswoman Kirsten Andresen says.
Winemaking isn't for wallflowers, as the Barking Frog's chef Bobby Moore learned from the industry insiders who regularly patronize his restaurant.
"They were all telling him how they could cook," Andresen recalls.
Moore last year put their claims to the test with Iron Vintner. Darby English of Darby Cellars won the first-ever title; this year's contest features a new group of winemakers.
Andresen says the dishes last week's competitors produced from the roasted "pig on a stick" Moore presented were surprisingly good. "Any competition like this is tough for anyone," she concedes.
The month-long event benefits the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center.
