Dunkin' Donuts has nothing to worry about. This new menu item at Matt's in the Market is not breakfast, nor is it a greasy treat you'd ever think of eating on-the-go. This, my friends, is a savory delight that rivals any chicken and waffle combo you've ever thrown down your gullet.
The Duck'n Doughnuts ($26) is one of the most popular entrees currently on the Matt's dinner menu. It's a hearty dish composed of a generous-sized duck leg that's been slowly cooked in fat (confit) and seared to give it a crispy skin. Underneath is a pile of fresh, stunningly bright sauteed mustard greens that melt in your mouth. But the prize is the homemade four-spice churros that are light and airy and, according to my British friend, taste just like Yorkshire pudding. To me, they tasted like really, really good doughnuts.
The entire dish is drizzled with Pedro Ximénez sherry and Stumptown gastrique.
Order this when you're jonesing for an extraordinary doughnut and coffee fix downtown.
