The Deal: Free chips and salsa, $3 shots, well drinks, draft beer, and appetizers, $4.25 margaritas
The Digs: This Mexican restaurant is based in a section of Post Alley that remains largely ignored by families and tourists. As a dinner destination, El Malecon is nothing special and probably ranks just a couple notches above Azteca. Like many Mexican restaurants in this city, its menu consists of Tex-Mex standards and its patrons tend to be nearby employees who come here for the sake of convenience. But as a happy hour spot, it's perfect for Wazzu graduates such as myself and my drinking companions; you can down super cheap rounds of shots and stuff your face with complimentary chips without feeling self conscious - just like you can in Pullman!
El Malecon is relatively empty on weekday evenings, which translates to servers delivering your drinks at lightening speed. If you need more sustenance, a couple bucks gets you big portions of nachos, quesadillas, hot wings, and more. And if you would rather use that money on drinks, they will just as happily provide more chips and salsa (these Cougs went through four baskets in two hours) without passing judgment. Score!
The Verdict: Awesome. The only places you are going to find cheaper nachos and tequila shots are at a Mexican restaurant in Pullman, Washington and well, Mexico.
