The Place:The Lookout, 757 Bellevue Ave. E, 860-2752, CAPITOL HILL
The Hours: All day Monday, Tues-Fri 4-7 p.m., Sat.-Sun. 12-4 p.m.
The Deal: Aside from the drink discounts ($3 micros, $4 wells and wine), The Lookout--not to be confused with The Hideout--offers some tasty snacks for five bucks each. Happy hour specialties include pita pizza (consisting of mixed vegetables resting atop creamy goat cheese and pesto) chicken strips drenched in buffalo sauce, mac 'n cheese, and a hummus plate. Hit up The Lookout during the week and you can enjoy the all-day happy hour on Mondays, karaoke on Tuesdays, and $5 PBR pitchers on Wednesdays.
The Digs: Located at the intersection of Bellevue, Bellevue, and Bellevue (even the iPhone savvy have trouble locating this one on Google Maps), the watering hole is easy to miss next to the towering apartment and condominium complexes. Inside, wooden floors lead you past the small bar to an upper level where a handful of tables face the city skyline. For anyone looking to trade the air conditioned loft-like space for a breath of fresh air, a back deck allows for an even better view of the setting sun. Just be sure to arrive early: The back seating fills up fast, leaving the front patio area that offers a less-inspiring view of the street and its reckless parallel parkers.
The Verdict: The strict "order at the bar" ordinance that The Lookout adheres to keeps everyone happy, allowing you to play musical chairs whenever and wherever you want. With a clientele ranging from hipsters to stiletto-clad divas, it's easy to get sidetracked and drift between tables. Cheap food coupled with dynamite views make it worth the nightmarish search for parking, while the bar even comes fully equipped with a Frankenstein pinball machine to melt away any minutes spent waiting for prime seating.
