The someone else in question? Stefany Dybeck, who won this year with her recipe for a "Fonduta Fettunta" grilled cheese sandwich, utilizing three different kinds of cheese, a good loaf of batard, butter, leeks and garlic. Sounds good, right? Which is why I'm not protesting the decision of the judges even a little bit.
If you want to get a taste of the Fonduta Fettunta, it'll be on the board at the cafe at DeLaurenti Specialty Food & Wine, right next to the main entrance of Pike Place Market--one of the perks of it being this year's winning sammy. And if you're interested in learning the specifics of the sandwich's preparation, you can catch Stefany down at the cheese festival doing a demo on Sunday, May 16, from 10-11am. Why, exactly, it's going to take her an hour, I don't know. Maybe she'll be making sandwiches for everyone. That would be super-cool.
For the rest of you cheese freaks, the big cheese party starts bright and early on Saturday, May 15, with a cheese showcase at 10am in the market's main thoroughfare, and just rolls on from there with cheese seminars, cheese classes, cheese tastings and cheese demos. And details on the Seattle Cheese Festival can be found (of course) at the festival's website--seattlecheesefestival.com, natch.
