Tat's Deli is moving. That much we know for sure. They're packing up and heading around the corner--closing down the original shop at 115 Occidental Avenue and opening the doors at 157 Yesler Way. The only real question these days? When, exactly, that move will happen.
So now, there's a new plan: June 3 for the F&F party, June 4 for a public opening. And I called new partner Mike Sichel just to see what was happening and to make sure that, this time, the date was going to stick.
"Brian [Tatman, the founder of Tat's] was just saying that this is definitely going to happen this time," Sichel told me, almost-but-not-quite promising that this date was probably, totally going to be the final one for the opening.
When I asked what was holding up the show, Sichel just laughed. Permits, of course--same thing that nearly always holds up restaurant openings and pushes them beyond their announced dates.
"We keep getting delayed," Sichel explained. "Between getting all the inspections done and the permits? But this one is for sure."
