TONIGHT: What's a Gefilte Fish? And Other Tastes of Passover

Here's a last minute event for those interested in a bit of cultural tourism, or a suggestion for new menu options. Yes, you may see all the packaged Passover foods in your average grocery store, but the culinary traditions behind Passover (this year, March 30- April 5) go beyond chocolate-covered matzo. Holiday foods on offer include the much-maligned gefilte fish, as well as matzo ball soup. The wines no doubt, will be more drinkable than Manischewitz.

What's a Gefilte Fish? And Other Tastes of Passover: Tuesday, March 16, 4-7 p.m. Whole Foods Roosevelt, 1026 N.E. 64th St., 985-1500.

Free; $1 wine tasting, with funds going to the Whole Planet Foundation.
