CHOW's Dow Promotion - Wednesday, October 28th, someone will win at least $9,500 in gift certificates from CHOW restaurants in their Guess the Dow program. All entrees in all CHOW restaurants will cost as many pennies as whatever the Dow reads at close on Wednesday; so 10,000 means everything's $10. Draft beer, house wine and well drinks will cost the close of the NASDAQ (so around $2!). CHOW's Dow promotion is a benefit for Artcorps. Participating restaurants: 5 Spot (1502 Queen Anne Ave. N.), Endolyne Joe's (9261 45th Ave. S.W.), The Hi-Life (5425 Russell Ave. N.W.), Atlas Foods (University Village).
Heirloom Apples - More than ten different farmers featured new crops of heirloom apples this past weekend at the Saturday U-District farmers market. You could get your daily fiber just sampling the different kinds, more arriving next week. Look for Boskoops, a green and red rough-skinned apple with a sharp, tart flavor.

Oysters! - Taylor Shellfish Farms starts offering Shigokus again, the oysters--which get their unique deep bowl shape from tumbling in the tide--debuted last year that had the food community drooling. Check them out at the farmers market, U-District on Saturday and Ballard on Sunday; or look for them in resetaurants around town.
Anchovies & Olives... and Oysters! - On November 1st, the restaurant rolls out a 5:00-6:00 p.m. oyster power hour, running it again 10:00 p.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Power hour includes a $1 oyster selection, $2 Peronis and $5 glasses of bubbly. (Anchovies & Olives, 1550 15th Ave. open daily at 5:00 p.m.)
