The Times and P-I have been doing an admirable job of following the peanut-salmonella scandal, which just gets more and more infuriating. The NYT's latest victim count: 637 illnesses and nine deaths. I assumed that, as someone who doesn't buy a lot of processed foods and mostly shops at natural-foods stores, the recall didn't affect me. I was wrong.
Today, I just learned today that that the PCA's Texas plant, which was also shut down a few days ago for shipping contaminated products, was certifiedorganic by the USDA.
PCC has just updated its list of recalled products, and they include a few that surprised me: Mighty-O vanilla cake coconut peanut doughnuts, quite a few Clif and Luna bars, Cascadian Farms and Kashi granola bars, and several of Ethnic Gourmet's Thai entrees. Find the full list here. Read Whole Foods' list here (Odwalla, too?) and Madison Market's list here (Nature's Path?).
