If you haven't been to Crown Hill's Ristorante Picolinos in a while, it may be time to head in for another taste. Jonathan Kauffman was lukewarm on the place in December, but owner Tom Bailiff has brought in two new cooks--Espedito "Dino" Santonicola, formerly of Via Tribunali, and Stefano Mazzi, gold-medal winner from the culinary school of Genoa. "I wanted a very authentic product," explains Bailiff. He's also opened Espresso Picolinos next to the dining room, which will be serving gelato, house-made pastries, and coffee. Bailiff hopes to soon offer wine and tapas out of the space in the evening. He's planning to open a deli and come summer, fire up an outdoor pizza oven. That's quite an ambitious undertaking, but probably a smart business bet, considering there aren't very many restaurants in the area.
