A promotion like New Urban Eats, the all month dining deal where you get 3 courses for $30 at newer area restaurants, used to be the bane of every waiter's existence, bringing out some of the msot challenging cheapos and coupon hunters. On the flip side, these promos were also a potential pain for diners, who innocently arrived at participating restaurants only to get grief from surly waiters.
I imagine things our different this January, when EVERYONE is looking for a deal, and EVERY WAITER is just hoping for a second turn on their tables. Some highlights for this week's possible participants and their menus:
($30 offer good Sunday through Thursday in January.)
Spring Hill (4437 California Ave S.W.) open at 5:45pm, but closed on Mondays Go for the Hangar steak. Seriously. The good companion would then order the burger and thus a meat perfecta acheived.
Betty (1507 Queen Anne Ave. N.) open at 5:00pm Hope for the crispy duck WITH homemade sausage to be on the menu. One of you should just order a plate of the house made duck proscuitto. Because you can make salad at home. And don't miss the pillowy soft salt cod fritters.
BOKA at Hotel 1000 (1000 1st Ave.) open at 5:30pm The menu has been heavy on the Ps, PARSNIP soup, PORK chop and PARSNIP puree, and PUMPKIN bread pudding. Perfect, although opposed to my vision of the place because after my first cocktail, I'm always fantasizing about a Crockett & Tubbs style shoot out.
