Saturday: Year of the Ox Celebration

Monday marked the official start of lunar year 4707 on the Chinese calendar--the Year of the Ox, but many celebrations will happen this weekend. The Chinatown-International District will host numerous events from 11:00am to 4:00pm. The official kick off happens on S. King Street between 5th Avenue S. and Maynard Avenue S. at noon and will include dragon dancing and martial arts, with more music and martial arts demos throughout day.

Area businesses will participate with special sales and treats. I'll need to hit my top 5: Kobo at Higo (604 S. Jackson St.) for all sorts of amazing and unique presents, Seattle's Best Tea (506 S. King St.) for my oolong, Mon Hei Bakery (669 S. King St.) for almond studded snacks, New An Dong (601 S. King St.) for some Chinese herbal remedies--the best herb in town, and dim sum at Jade Garden (701 S. King St.) if I'm feeling up to the wait.
