The University District is now enjoying the recently opened
food stand Bratz (yes, like the dolls, we see a frivolous lawsuit in their future). They're
serving up German fast food at a walk-up window just below Cedars,
making a great quick meal to warm you up on blustery winter days. The menu is
small, consisting of two different kinds of brats--red (pork and beef) or white
(just pork)--and schnitzel, all prepared a variety of ways. You can get your
sausage on a roll or sliced and doused with a zesty redsauce, while the
schnitzel is available in sandwich form or served with either a mushroom hunter
sauce or lemon. They are more than generous with their seasoned fries, and one
order of the mushroom hunter schnitzel could easily feed two people. They also
offer fresh baked rolls, potato salad, and German roasted almonds, as well as a
dessert you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere in Seattle: elephant ears.
There is only one uncovered stand-up table on the sidewalk, so expect to eat
your wiener on the go or at home with plenty of napkins.
