It Means Popcorn in Russia

My new favorite reason to go downtown: KuKuRuZa. It's a new gourmet popcorn shop that quietly opened in the Kress building on Monday. The grand opening is Friday.

Chef Robert Hicks, a CIA graduate, has cooked up more than two dozen flavors, including an entire "After 5" collection that's spiked with an assortment of liquors (the black raspberry chambord is my favorite).

KuKuRuZa has decided to take a cue from Baskin Robbins by offering samples of each flavor for customers like myself who tend to hold up the line with their indecisiveness.

There's even a line of holiday flavors like eggnog, peppermint krackle, candy cane caramel and gingerbread frost.

I tried a handful of flavors on Monday, and must say, I have a soft spot in my heart for the coconut macaroon and chipotle cheddar.
